Whats the secret to getting hired at Sylvan Learning Center?
Honestly, it’s about being the right person at the moment the center is looking. Centers change what they’re looking for depending on the current student enrollment, and there’s no real way to predict that. Beyond that, you’re most likely to be hired if you’re flexible and can really demonstrate that you are comfortable working with a range of ages. If the center offers you the chance to observe an instructional hour, definitely take advantage of that. The director is trying to see how much you want to be there, and the teacher is watching to see if and how you interact with the kids. Free hint as the teacher most often conducting a candidate observation for my own center: pick a student and start working with them. Also, ask questions. The teacher does actually expect you to ask about Sylvan’s philosophy and about how the programs work….
