Whats the secret to getting hired at Excite@Home Network Inc., Redwood City, CA, USA?
This company has evaporated. It was a good place to work in the 90’s with many of the dot com perks and excesses. Nice campus with great onsite restaurants and cafes. Free ice cream on Fridays, the little neighborhood ice cream cart vendors would make the rounds of the floors ringing their bells. A spiral slide between floors and a well stocked video and pinball game arcade. A free bus between SF and Redwood City was a fun way to commute. Started to become a ghost town in late ’99 as everyone who saw the handwriting on the wall left for other dot.coms. I was in a huge section of empty cubicles (that were formally buzzing with activity, music and nerf dart gun wars for the previous year) for about 3 months before I got out. I was a developer but they offered me management positions to get me to stay. I was glad I left because I found my favorite job yet as a game developer back in 99, 2K.
