What’s the role of “pastoral care,” and secondly, does public relations and the social work field intersect?
Pastoral care is counseling provided by pastors or other religious leaders. They can offer services to members of their congregation or other religious members in the community. The counseling itself can be of a formal nature (an appointment that takes place at an institution) or slightly less formal (visiting an individual’s house). Social work and PR can intersect to a degree. A social services agency or institution can employ the services of PR professionals to foster communication with the public. For example, if a mental services agency was opening a new facility – they would want to send out a press release. Or a PR professional could do a piece on the services offered by an agency, in order to promote the agency’s name and public image.
