Whats the purpose of the use of multiple readers covering the same material?
Most professional writers have experienced “the reader who just didn’t get it” syndrome. Even among professional caliber readers, any one reader may have an “off read” or personal tastes may interfere and/or they may not “get” the writer’s particular sense of humor or style. Or they just had a bad day. Over the years, we’ve seen a great deal of heartbreak and ruined creative potential caused by a writer relying on one or two points of view in their professional feedback. The danger looms large of one or two readers (including the “gurus” a writer can hire to analyze and advise) being myopic to various key issues in the material and/or leading the writer in directions that serve the reader’s vision or interest more than the fundamental story the writer is trying to tell.
