What’s the primary benefit of the Special Olympics to kids with disabilities?
A. The opportunities within Special Olympics aren’t just sports-related: It gives the athletes opportunities to have real-world experience in public speaking, in a business setting. We incorporate the Special Olympics athletes into all of the meetings, conferences, speaking engagements and fundraising activities we can. It gives them experience dealing with different situations. So it’s almost a complete life-development opportunity — more than just developing an affinity for a particular sport. Q. Would you describe the Sheriff’s Office as a charitable Sheriff’s Office? A. Absolutely. Every time we turn around, we’re faced with some sort of opportunity to do charitable giving — and this office continually steps up.
