Whats the penalty for reprinting a syndicated comic strip in a school newspaper?
I’ve never heard of GET FUZZY, but assuming it’s like most comic strips, you’ve probably violated the author’s copyright rights. The penalty for this sort of thing is usually civil in nature. In other words, you’d be subject to a lawsuit and damages, not criminal charges and a prison sentence. Realistically, though, for what you describe, nothing will likely happen. As long as there was no “gain” for the publisher (monetary or other benefit), and as long as you didn’t negatively impact the authors ability to make money with his comic strip (and it certainly sounds like you didn’t), nothing will happen.
