Whats the optimal roof characteristics for solar panel installation?
The roof space needs nothing but clouds and sky between it and the sun, though a little bit of shade from trees is tolerable. Ideally the roof will be sloped and facing southward (assuming you live in the Northern Hemisphere), though western exposures work well, too. Installers can work with almost any kind of roof type, from composition shingles to clay and concrete tiles or metal. As you can see in this picture, even flat, multi-level roofs work fine, as panels can be spaced apart.
