Whats the most awesome hotel near the Grand Canyon? Does it have a view?
On the South Rim (the more developed and more visited one), there are several lodges that are right on the rim, but it is hard to get a good view from your room (see below). All of the lodges in the park are ran by Xanterra in conjunction with the park service. Keep in mind that because it is a canyon (as opposed to a mountain view), you have to look down into it to see most of the details and as a result even if your room is near the rim, you won’t see much other than sky unless you get right up near the window. Also, unless there is a near full moon, you won’t see much from your room at night other than a sea of blackness. What I am trying to say is that it really does not matter what the view from your room is as long as you can easily walk to the rim. That is the best way to experience the canyon from the rim anyways – sit right on the rim in the breeze, watching the light on the rocks or listening to the ravens.
