Whats the main motivation – adventure or money?
Now, I think it’s the adventure. I don’t really need the money anymore! I just love it. A big part of the job is moving as many loads as possible before the ice melts – is it a battle with Mother Nature? Absolutely. Mother Nature is in total control – everyone is working for her! If it’s too warm then you can’t get on the ice, and there are no ways around that! What kind of animal encounters do you have on the road? I’ve never had any problems with animals on the road. Although you’ve got everything from Caribous to wolves out there, but they tend to keep their distance and just let you get on with it! What are some of the typical dangers that could befall you in a single day of ice road trucking? The main danger out there is when you come on and off the ice. You never know what the guy in front of you has been doing. Has he been speeding? He could have blown the ice out, and you don’t find out until it’s too late.
