The lava lamp scale is much like a star-rating scale. We assign movies a rating from one to five lava lamps, based on their “merit.” If you’re actually looking for a good movie to rent, as opposed to reading these reviews for your own entertainment, look for anything with a lava lamp rating of three or higher. Just for fun, here’s the explanation of the lava lamp scale: 1 lava lamp: Be afraid. Be very afraid. No matter how much someone tells you they love this film, don’t believe them. 2 lava lamps: You’d probably have a better time picking your nose than watching this movie, but there are one or two redeeming characteristics. It might appeal to fans of certain genres, actors, or directors. 3 lava lamps: Worth watching, usually for one or two particular reasons. Not an outstanding film, but it can certainly walk into a room full of other movies without hanging its head in shame. 4 lava lamps: A darn good movie.
