Whats the history of the Yardman name?
My great-great-grandfather and his brother came here from Germany on the way to Denver. They were carpenters. You’ll see mention in local history of Sawdust Charlie and that was my great-grandfather. There are houses my grandfather built on Griffin Street and maybe on Katherine Street. My dad worked on many, many buildings, including the old Sweeney gym. My dad did a lot of schools, including in Eldorado. And the EspaƱola hospital and the plutonium recovery building in Los Alamos. He used to build a lot of chair lifts up at Taos Ski Valley when he worked for Richard Peck, and instead of him coming home on weekends, we would go up there and Ernie Blake taught me and my sisters how to ski. I remember going up the ski hill in the Cat at 5 o’clock in the morning. We’ve had a lot of incredible opportunities because of my dad, and he’s still excited about construction at 79 years old.
