Whats the history behind Mercury FM?
Mercury FM first went on air at 8am on 20th October 1984 as Radio Mercury on 103.6fm and 1521am. After one year, our fm frequency changed to 102.7, and 97.5 in Horsham. In 1991, the station merged with County Sound in Guildford to form the Allied Radio Group. At that time, the Group launched Airport Information Radio (AIR) serving Gatwick and Heathrow. In 1995, the station was renamed 102.7 Mercury fm with ownership changing several times, before eventually becoming part of the GWR Group in 2000. Five years later, GWR and the Capital Radio Group merged to form Gcap Media Plc. In November 2008, GCap Media Plc was acquired by Global Radio Services Ltd of which Mercury fm proudly remains a part.
