CleanCrete’s SRI rating is the same as traditional concrete. Specifying CleanCrete will help a LEED-track project earn points in Sustainable Sites, Credit 7: Heat Island Effect. Concrete constructed using ordinary Portland cement generally has an SRI around 35. New concrete made with white Portland cement can have an SRI as high as 86. For comparison, new asphalt usually has an SRI of 0, and weathered asphalt has an SRI of approximately 6. Q: Can white portland cement be used in lieu of traditional Portland cement? A: Yes, but because much of the portland cement has been replaced in CleanCrete by other material, the dramatic lightening effects from white portland cement won’t be as dramatic as in conventional concrete.
