Whats the Greatest Iron Chef America Battle Ever?
Batali vs. Oliver in Battle Cobia (photo courtesy of Food Network) I’m not one for clip shows–those episodes of television shows consisting of past scenes neatly packaged as flashbacks. Seinfeld did one, and so did Cheers, The A-Team, and even, Pee-wee’s Playhouse (after all, one can never get too much of Laurence Fishburne as Cowboy Curtis). But once you happen upon one, they’re hard to resist watching. Such will be the case this Sunday when Food Network airs the greatest moments from six seasons of Iron Chef America. I’ve been fortunate enough to serve as a judge for a number of battles, a few of which I think will be included in the 30-minute special. There’s the time Mario Batali and Tony Abou-Gamin made mango-flavored hooch on a stovetop still; the time Jamie Oliver’s sous chef strangled a cobia fish, and many more. The battle everyone remembers (especially my colleague Victoria von Biel, who was a judge on that episode) was Battle Trout, on which Morimoto made trout ice cream. S
