Whats the future of high volume computer output?
There are three major trends that must be balanced to achieve success in HVCO, either as a corporate user, professional practitioner, or equipment and services provider. High volume computer output will not be regarded as core competency by many companies who use it to support other businesses, so they will be reducing, consolidating, and outsourcing rather than adding printing capacity. I don’t see any technology coming that will change that thrust. Second, is the trend to go outside the company for all color printing, except for individualized documents, produced on personal and departmental color printers (which will continue to grow). In order to build the marketing and business expertise, especially the management of artistic and aesthetic content, the digital suppliers will need to bring the 500 year-old printing industry into the computer age.
