Whats the funnest thing about duck hunting with Joe?
The camaraderie. Going duck hunting with someone requires spending about 28-30 hours together. Other uncle-nephew activities, like going to a ball game, require 3-4 hours, but duck hunting, well, you can really get to know someone if you spent a whole day and a half with them. Why does it take so long to hunt ducks? We drive out on an afternoon to the wildlife refuges, we eat at a diner, we sleep a bit in the camper, but we’re up at 4:30 and we’re in the muck and mire of the marsh in our rubber boots and waders before sunrise, setting up a spread of decoys and constructing our little blind in the tules. We usually shoot until sundown, then we drive back, exhausted and happy. What do you guys talk about? I mean, you’re 30 years older. Yeah, but I’m loud and zany, and I watch the same cartoons as Joe, and a lot of sci-fi. I can make all these weird monster noises, and I like getting in trouble with the grown-ups. Your Uncle Bob is just a great big kid, isn’t he, Joe? Oh, yeah. He’s crazy
