Whats the food like?
On hotel- and inn-based trips we dine in local restaurants and have the pleasure of experiencing a variety of local cuisine. We eat equally well on our camping trips, which feature an abundance of fresh, delicious food. On our high-altitude climbing trips we use a combination of fresh and freeze-dried food. All water used for cooking and drinking is purified by filter or it is boiled. Of course, we can accommodate special dietary requests (vegetarian, food allergies, etc.) For a list of which meals are included on your trip, please refer to the specific trip itinerary.
We start with a great breakfast in our hotel to get you ready for a day of activity. During the ride we provide everything you could want from water and sport drinks to fresh fruit and energy bars. At lunchtime we stop in a scenic location and our chef/guide will prepare a gourmet outdoor lunch from fresh produce and other delicatessen. After a day filled with exercise a well-deserved delicious dinner awaits you in a restaurant reflecting the flavour and ambience of your destination.
The food will be wholesome, tasty and plentiful. It is usually prepared by the local team so we are able to enjoy a variety of local dishes. For example, Morocco – couscous and tagines, China – rice and noodles, India – curries and dhals. There will be snacks and water available on challenge days. If you have a special dietary request please let us know and we will do our best to accommodate it.
Food at camp is top-notch. We eat well each day; from chicken fingers to lasagna the food is a hit. Each meal you eat will be with your campers, and this is a wonderful time to share not only food but good conversation. Our meals are served family style so meal time is fun! The menus at camp run on a two-week cycle, so be prepared that you will see the same meal each session. However, this break is typically sufficient for most staff.
