Whats the differences between an authoritarian and autocratic government?
“Authoritarian” is a newer term. Also, old style autocratic governments (such as absolute monarchies) do not in any way pretend to serve the people and have one guy at the top openly claiming a “divine right” to rule, whereas modern authoritarian dictatorships at least claim that they’re acting according to the will of the people, though in reality it’s a few privileged people at the top ruling through a bureaucracy.
