Whats the difference between WIEP and SWE?
The Women in Engineering Program (WIEP) works under the administrative structure of the Deans’ Office of the College of Engineering. Our funding comes from the College, plus corporate and private donations. Our mission is to foster the success of women in engineering by recruiting, retaining, and encouraging women engineering students. To increase retention, we offer academic advising, personal counseling, and programs such as peer mentoring. WIEP also offers scholarships to a limited number of incoming first-year and transfer students. To encourage women to study engineering, we sponsor recruiting and encouragement programs including Engineering and Science Badge Days for Brownies/Girl Scouts, and Engineering Career Days for middle school girls and a separate program for high school women. The Society of Women Engineers (SWE) is a professional society that has an active student section here at CU-Boulder. The women and men who join SWE pay dues and attend monthly meetings. In addition
