What’s the difference between unofficial and official transcripts? What makes it official?
Official transcripts are printed on security paper with the official University of Wisconsin-Madison seal as well as the signature of the Registrar. The security paper will render the official transcripts void if they are photocopied, scanned, or faxed and have watermark safety mechanisms. “Unofficial transcripts” are also known as student records. Along with course information, student records include student memoranda (e.g., disciplinary information, grade changes) and are not printed on official transcript paper. Current students can request an emailed copy of their student record through MyUW, by visiting the Student Center. Former students can request an emailed copy of their student record through MyInfo: http://myinfo.wisc.edu. Student records/unofficial transcripts are also available in-person by visiting the Office of the Registrar.
