Whats the difference between these two Betta Fish Foods?
The difference in the color-enhancing betta specific pellets is brand and cost. Most bettas are picky eaters and will only eat pellets as an alternative to starvation. Both Hikari and Nutrifin are respectable brands and use very good quality control methods in their manufacturing processes. If had to choose between those two brands, I would choose the Nutrifin. Hikari specializes in cold water goldfish and koi food and most of their products are more expensive than comparable ones because Hikari products are imported from Asia. A betta “may” eat the tropical flakes. Some will eat anything. It is not recommended to to flaked food to bettas, because it breaks apart and sinks to the bottom which will foul the water. The betta pellets are created to float for a very good reason. Betta’s naturally eat insects that land on the water. Pellets simulate this. Flakes will eventually sink, foul the water, and the betta will not receive enough nutrition. Here is what a betta SHOULD be fed:
