Whats the difference between the Pro Tools in the Open Lab and in the Audio Suites?
The Audio Suite versions of Pro Tools are called “TDM” systems, which means that all of the audio processing is performed on the Pro Tools PCI card. The TDM systems therefore have many voices and buses, as well as very powerful internal effects processing. The Open Lab versions of Pro Tools are called “LE” systems which means that all of the audio processing is performed by the processor in the Mac itself. The LE systems have fewer voices, buses, and a lower track count capability than the TDM systems, but are still very powerful. Projects can be easily moved back and forth between the Audio Suites and the Open Lab as long as the track count of the session do not exceed the capabilities of the LE systems.
