Whats the difference between the Healthcare Fund and the Health Care Spending Account? Can I use both?

0

Yes – you can use both the Healthcare Fund and the Health Care Spending Account if you enroll in the Total Health Plan. Remember, the Healthcare Fund is ONLY available to Total Health participants. The Healthcare Fund may be used to pay for certain costs that, in the past, you may have claimed for reimbursement through the Health Care Spending Account (HCSA). The biggest difference is that the Healthcare Fund is a credit that pays for some of your plan medical expenses. Remember, the Healthcare Fund always pays first and you can’t be reimbursed for these expenses since you didn’t pay out-of-pocket for them. The HCSA enables you to set aside your pre-tax dollars from your paycheck so you can be reimbursed for medical expenses that exceed the Healthcare Fund amount or are not covered by the Total Health Plan but approved by the Internal Revenue Service.
