Whats the difference between the grades?

0

There are essentially 4 grades of wood in the lumber industry but only 3 are used. (Select) Firsts, (FAS) First and Seconds, and (Rustic) Seconds. There are also 3rds, everything left over after the seconds but no one wants to talk about those. I will in a minute. Firsts are the highest grade of flooring and lumber in the world and usually picked from the seconds. First and seconds are the two grades mixed, also known as mill run because everything is run at once. Seconds are usually rustic floors and may contain some small open knots. Thirds will contain open knots and may sometimes be mixed with seconds and past off as seconds. Rustic flooring should not contain large open knots. We do not sell this kind of material unless requested.
