The dry-bulb temperature is just another term for the air temperature as read from a normal thermometer. The wet-bulb temperature is often determined by covering an ordinary thermometer with a moistened cloth wick. Evaporation from the wick cools the thermometer; the lowest temperature reached is the wet-bulb temperature. The difference between the wet and dry-bulb temperatures is used to calculate the dew point and relative humidity. You can find out wet-bulb and dry-bulb temperatures by buying (or making) a sling psychrometer. Find out how to use one on this USA TODAY resource page.
