Whats the difference between the BA and BS psychology degrees?
The BA (Bachelors of Arts) degree in psychology is the degree most commonly chosen by psychology majors at UTPA. The BA degree allows psychology majors a lot of freedom in choosing which psychology classes they would like to take to complete their degree and is faster to complete than the BS. It requires 31 psychology credit hours. The BS (Bachelors of Science) degree is designed primarily to help students prepare for graduate school by ensuring that they have the foundation needed to succeed in their graduate courses. It requires extra science courses (biology, chemistry, or physics) and ensures that students have had courses in each of the major areas of psychology. The BS degree requires 37 psychology credit hours and 19 science credit hours (8 of which can overlap with core requirements).
