Whats the difference between TEFL TESL and TESOL?

0

Tefl tesl and tesol are all abbreviations for basically the same thing. The terms “Teaching English as a foreign language” and “Teaching English as a second language” do, however, refer to teaching two distinct types of learner ie, TEFL refers to teaching nationals from countries where English has no official status (eg. Spain, Poland) and TESL refers to teaching nationals from countries where Englsih has some status (eg. Nigeria, India and Zimbabwe). TESOL encompasses both terms and the basic methodology for all three is the same. In general the term “TEFL” is used generically to describe a range of very similiar concepts. Tefl Certificate and Tefl Diploma are both used generically to describe the preliminary and advanced qualifications which can be held.
