Whats the difference between technical analysis and fundamental analysis?
Technical analysis looks at the history of market action to predict future moves. It says that market action discounts everything. This means that anything that could affect the price is actually reflected in the price of that market. Also, we believe that prices move in trends. And finally, we believe that history repeats itself. Therefore, we can see situations that we’ve seen before and predict the future results over the short term. Fundamental analysis examines all of the relative factors affecting the price of a stock to determine an intrinsic value. If that value is above the current market value, then it’s undervalued and should be bought and vice versa. Unfortunately, FA doesn’t tell you when a move will be made. Therefore, it’s useless for the short term trader. Both types of analysis try to answer the same question, just from different aspects.
