what`s the difference between spinning reels and baitcasting reels, can both be used for lure fishing?
Answer Hi John, Both can be used for lure fishing or live bait fishing. If you are a beginner, you will want to start with spinning tackle. It is much easier to use and will handle a variety of lures better than baitcasting. When you get further into the sport you may want to try baitcasting. Baitcasting is for larger, harder pulling lures or for pulling fish out of heavy cover. Baitcasting does take some practice and doesn’t lend itself to long casts with light lures. It’s “power” tackle. Start with spinning and make sure you get a spinning rod for your spinning reel. Good fishing and welcome to the sport!
