Whats the difference between SHOW, FIBER and COMPANION/PET animals?
• SHOW animals are the very highest quality animals with the fiber characteristics and conformation to be able to compete in the AOBA sanctioned alpaca shows and at least place in the top five in some of those shows, therefore becoming ribbon winners. These animals are usually very expensive and are in high demand as foundation females and herdsires. They usually produce outstanding offspring • FIBER animals are those alpacas that dont have the conformation to allow them to compete in the show ring but they may have the same fiber characteristics as a show animal. There are two sub-categories of FIBER animals BREEDING FIBER animals and NON-BREEDING FIBER animals. If the reason for designating a female as a FIBER animal is not a genetic defect, she may be used in your foundation breeding herd and is therefore a BREEDING FIBER animal. An example of a usable FIBER animal for breeding is a knock-kneed animal where the knock-knees are the result of a dystocia birth rather than genetics. If
