Whats the difference between SHN, FLAC, and MP3?
FLAC stands for Free Lossless Audio Codec. As the name implies, it is a free format for distributing audio at true CD quality. SHN is an abbreviation for Shorten, a lossless compression scheme also popular among tape traders. Some shows on nugs.net are available for download in both SHN and MP3 formats, while some are available in FLAC and MP3. For more information on SHN and FLAC, and for free software and tools to play and burn SHN/FLAC files to CD, please see the excellent resources at http://www.etree.org — they’re the best! Every show on nugs.net is in MP3 format, while some are also in FLAC or SHN. As a general rule, audience recordings are always MP3 while only soundboard recordings are distributed in a lossless format.
