Whats the difference between setting INTERNAL or S/PDIF (digital) as the sync mode in the hardware settings of Pro Tools?

You should only set it to S/PDIF (digital) when you are importing from a digital source (e.g.: DAT). This way Pro Tools will lock to the exact digital signal. For all other instances leave it on Internal.
