Whats the difference between schizophrenia and bipolar disorder?

0

Schizophrenia is a disease characterised by psychosis, blunting of emotion, possibly hallucinations (auditory and visual) and other symptoms. Bipolar is characterised by swings from severe depression to mania (irrationality, increased energy and so on). Hence it used to be called manic depression. A common misconception is that the manic episodes are kind of fun and you feel great. However, the mania can actually be more destructive than the depression as patients have the energy to perform possibly detrimental impulsive actions.

Very briefly, bipolar disorder is a disorder of feelings; schizophrenia is a disorder of thought.
