Whats the difference between Retail and OEM software?

OEM Software is sold to manufacturers and people who build custom computers. Retail editions are what you would find at your local store. I’m not sure if you can buy an OEM version to upgrade to another version of Windows since OEM software is usually designed to be installed on systems that currently don’t have an installed operating system. The retail versions usually have more manuals and installation guides since the OEM versions are geared more towards people who have experience installing operating systems on machines that don’t already have a version of Windows already installed on it.
