What’s the difference between reasonable accommodation and special education?
Secondary educators and disability specialists primarily engage with the student in a process of teaching and learning through the means of special education. This may involve modifying the curriculum and/ or providing alternative specialized instruction designed through an IEP (Individualized Education Plan). Postsecondary educators and disability resource professionals primarily engage with students in the process of access to learning through the means of reasonable accommodation, not modification or alteration.
