Whats the Difference Between Public and Private Universities?

Location for one. I would suggest that the types of students are going to be different between publics and privates in general. Publics only admit a specific percentage of undergrads from out of state whereas a private school may have greater geographic diversity. If you are from in state, the tuition is going to be less for a public school as compared to a private one. Certain public schools (UW Madison among them) has seen state imposed budget cuts for years but I suppose now private schools are getting the same treatment from shrinking endowments. All in all, I don’t think that the difference between a public school (if you are out of state) and a private one will be all that significant.
