Whats the difference between Metro Skywarn, Wright County West Metro Skywarn, and Sherburne County Skywarn?
There are actually several Skywarn programs covering the Twin Cities region. When you become a spotter, you need to consider and choose the Skywarn program located closest to your typical observing location. Spotters located in the core counties comprising the Twin Cities typically report to Metro Skywarn using their amateur radio frequencies. Spotters located in Western Hennepin county, Wright county, or Meeker county should consider joining and reporting into Wright County West Metro Skywarn. Spotters located in Sherburne county should consider joining and reporting through Sherburne County Skywarn. All three programs use the Metro Skywarn spotter ID numbers for interoperability. Spotters located in Scott and McLeod counties have their own Skywarn programs that are in the process of forming this year, and like all Skywarn programs are always looking for volunteers!
