King County Metro provides transit service within King County. In the 1990s, the state legislature enabled the creation of the Regional Transit Authority (RTA) to serve cross-county needs. After its 1996 approval by voters in its three-county district, the RTA changed its name to Sound Transit. Through ST Express, Sound Transit provides over 400,000 hours of bus service in East King County, and is also making major investments in transit centers, center access ramps, and park-and-ride lots.
