Whats the difference between inferring and predicting?

0

Both strategies involve "being a good detective" and considering clues in the story. However, inferring tends to deal with matters in the present or in the past, whereas predicting tends to deal with matters in the future. For example, if we know that the sprinklers are on outside and the dog comes in wet, we would infer that the dog got wet from the sprinklers. On the other hand, we would predict that if we let the dog out when the sprinklers are going, it will come back wet.
