Whats the difference between HOPE attempted and completed hours?
• HOPE attempted hours include the hours that the student is enrolled at the completion of the official Drop/Add period (typically the fifth day of classes). The only exception is when a student totally withdraws from school (all classes) on or after the first day of class. These are the rules of the institution regarding official academic and refund policies. Basically, any courses that will be posted on a student’s official academic transcript (even with a “W”) are counted in the HOPE Attempted Hours. The Completed hours (or the hours that will be used in the HOPE GPA calculation) are courses that a student receives a grade of A, B, C, D, F or WF. Courses that receive grades of W, S, U, etc., ARE counted in the HOPE Attempted Hours but are NOT used in the HOPE GPA calculation. Cumulative Evaluation • The above rules apply for coursework taken AFTER high school graduation whether HOPE was received or not.
