Whats the difference between hard drive and flash drive based mp3 players?
Flash drives are limited in capacity – although getting bigger as technology advances. Hard drives can have much higher capacity – although this also gets bigger as technology advances. The hard drive physical size is another limitation – hence the size of hard drive MP3 players. They have gotten smaller over the years but they always be based on a disc (ie circle) so you’ll never(?) get a long thing hard drive MP3 player. A hard drive involves moving parts, so needs more power, whereas flash drives are solid state so last longer. Manufacturers may compensate with a larger battery but again this makes the MP3 player bigger. As to which is better, it depends on your requirements. I’m happy for a larger unit with shorter battery life before recharge because I look after the battery to make sure the time between charges doesn’t get much shorter over time.
