Whats the difference between grants, work-study, and loans?
Grants are “gift aid” that does not, with certain exceptions, have to be repaid. Loans must be repaid (plus any accrued interest), but you don’t have to start repaying until after you leave college or drop below half-time enrollment (6 units). Work-Study is earned by working part-time while in school. Money earned never has to be repaid, but you can’t earn more than the amount of your work-study award. For more information on specific types of awards available at LASC, see our Main Page.
