Whats the difference between “drawing” and “plot” files?

A drawing file (.dwg) stores the data in AutoCAD’s native format without any plotting information. A Plot file (.plt) stores drawing information AND the area you mark to be plotted, pen information and other relevant information to properly print the drawing.
