Whats the difference between dodge and strafe?

Dodge supposedly is what you use when your counter attacks fail. However Ive been using strafe for the same purpose, long before i even got dodge. After a successful dodge, you can start an attack but it’s still sometimes parried, but you can link a combo if your first hit lands. Strafe does the exact same thing. You “evade” that’s the term they use in training (go figure, a synonym of dodge), and then you strike. Of course, just like dodge, your counter-strike can still be blocked. Sometimes when you dodge and you manage to end up behind your enemy, you can kill them automatically, but this also applies to strafe. There is honestly no difference between the 2. When i saw dodge i was already cynical because i played AC1 (If you played the first one then you’ll know there was no point in dodging, when you could counter attack) I thought dodge would introduce at least a slightly different style of play.
