Whats the difference between dietetics and nutrition?
All dietetics courses include nutrition but all nutrition courses do not lead to a qualification in dietetics. Er, right. What qualities are needed? We require a basic interest and ability in science. And obviously an interest in diet and food, beyond the usual liking for the stuff, that is. Anything else? Good communication skills and team-working skills would be preferred. And you mustn’t be judgmental. Perish the thought. Are there different specialities? Yes. There’s animal nutrition, the study and promotion of the health of all animals: livestock, pets, wild animals and so forth. And public health nutrition, where nutrition is applied to benefit the general population, for example, in the relationship between diet and health and heart disease, cancer, weight issues etc. And sports nutrition, the promotion of public health, nutrition and physical activity in sports and exercise sciences.
