Whats the difference between deep packet inspection and flow signatures?
Both are used in Meru’s firewall and QoS rules. Deep packet inspection actually looks inside each packet, giving the network visibility into the application layer and beyond. Flow signatures recognize the unique characteristics of different data streams, classifying traffic based on criteria such as packet length or frequency. This is useful for encrypted traffic, which deep packet inspection cannot see inside.
