Whats the difference between Christian orthodox and Catholics?
I take by Orthodox you mean Eastern Orthodox. For a start, Eastern Orthodox uses a different calendar. Easter is coming up in a few weeks for Orthodox followers whereas Catholics and other Western Christians have already celebrated. Christmas to is on a different date unless you’re Greek, Romanian or Bulgarian Orthodox. There is no Pope in the Orthodox religion, in fact the notion of a pope is found to be weird by Orthodox followers. They were once one church but the Schism saw them divide and develop slightly different rituals. Catholics don’t use icons like Orthodox do, their rational was that Muslims – who also didn’t use icons – were having great military successes and they though god was punishing them for having icons. By icons I don’t mean ‘false gods’ but little paintings with the saints etc. Catholicism got its start in modern day Turkey/Greece. The name Catholic comes from Katholiki meaning universal.
