Whats the difference between CD-ROMs and CD-Recordables?
CD-ROMs (Compact Disc – Read Only Memory) are discs that are pressed in a large manufacturing plan in large quantities; the audio CDs you buy are CD-ROMs. The digital information is stored as a series of microscopic indentations on the surface. The Read Only Memory means that the data cannot be overwritten or erased. CD-Rs (Compact Disc – Recordable) are discs that are burned by a computer with a CD burner, usually one at a time. A high-powered laser in the burner burns pits in the dye layer. Both discs play in standard CD players.
