Whats The Difference Between Canon AE-1 / Canon AE-1 Program and Canon A1 ?
These are 35mm SLR film cameras as you probably know. When using the AE-1, the required shutter speed was set by the user, and the camera set the lens aperture automatically for the correct exposure, when the “firing” button was pressed. (There was also an AV-1 which used aperture priority, where the user set the required aperture and the camera calculated the shutter speed for the correct exposure) The A1 allowed the user to choose either shutter speed priority, or aperture priority for the exposure, and the camera adjusted the other parameter automatically. The A1 also had a Programme setting which meant that it would choose both shutter speed AND lens aperture for the exposure. It was programmed to choose practical settings that would not give excessively long exposures or excessively wide apertures.
