Most films today are edited using digital editing systems so many film editors don’t even work with actual film stock making the above explanation generally moot. The difference in terms are generally used to advertise an editor’s experience. For example, both Michael Kahn, who edited Jurassic Park, and the guy who edited together my friend’s wedding video can be considered video editors, however only the former could claim to be a film editor for obvious reasons.
